Aquatic Training Programs

Lifeguard Training

The American Red Cross Lifeguarding course prepares candidates with the skills and knowledge to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies. Upon successful completion, you’ll earn a nationally recognized ARC Lifeguard certification valid for 2 years. This blended learning course combines online learning with on-site skill sessions where you practice skills and demonstrate your competency. Students will be taught the proper rescue and safety skills necessary to lifeguarding in swimming pool environments. Must attend all classes and complete online work between classroom sessions.

Prerequisites

  • Swim 300 yards continuously (front crawl & breaststroke)
  • Tread water for 2 minutes using legs only
  • Complete a timed event: swim 20 yards, surface dive 7–10 ft, retrieve a 10 lb object, return to surface, and exit the water within 1 min 40 sec

Water Safety Instructor (WSI)

This blended learning course trains instructor candidates to teach courses in the American Red Cross Swimming and Water Safety Program. You’ll learn to perform and teach swimming skills — setting you up for a career in aquatic instruction. Includes online blended learning before the in-person component.

  • 25 yards each of front crawl, back crawl, breaststroke, elementary backstroke, sidestroke, and 15 yards of butterfly
  • Tread water for 1 minute Maintain back float or scull for 1 minute in deep water
  • Complete online blended learing module before first class day

Lifeguard Recertification

Already a certified lifeguard? Keep your credentials current with our recertification course. Covers updated rescue techniques, CPR/AED skill review, and first aid refresher. Must hold a current (non-expired) ARC Lifeguard certification to enroll. This blended learning course combines online learning with on-site skill sessions where you practice skills and demonstrate your competency. Must hold current American Red Cross Certification. Must attend all classes and complete online work prior to classroom sessions.

  • All students must pass pre-swim test.
  • Swim 300 yards continuously with breath control
  • Tread water for 2 minutes using only your legs
  • Swim 20 yards and retrieve a 10 lb brick with both hands.

Students who do not pass the pre-test will not be permitted to attend the course.

Basic Life Support Provider CPR

Learn the life-saving skills of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and how to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). This American Red Cross course covers adult, child, and infant CPR techniques. Ideal for parents, coaches, teachers, and anyone who wants to be prepared in an emergency.
